Information: My name is Rachel Scherrer and I currently teach 7th grade ELA at the middle years program. I am a seasoned English educator with over twelve years of experience teaching in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). Over that span, I have provided students with rigorous, academic reading and writing instruction, as well as creative arts-based educational principals. This year, I am proud to be a part of the Rufus King Middle Years Inter-Baccalaureate program.

In my career, I have developed a teaching philosophy based upon respect, collaboration and recognition of achievement. My students are given a safe, supportive environment to learn and grow, a team approach to difficult problems and materials, and positive reinforcement for standout performance.

My credentials include an EDBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on reading from Grand Canyon University.

I also currently teach college-level courses in integrating arts curricula into classroom lesson plans at Alverno and Mount Mary. Other professional activities have included directing school and community theater, and coaching a number of extracurricular activities. Theatre is my first love and I can’t wait to incorporate it into the Middle Years Campus.
