Information: My name is Cassandra Knueppel, and I teach 11th grade IB Literature and 10th grade pre-IB British Authors. Currently, I serve as the advisor for the Asian Club and for extended essays. My interests outside of Rufus King include my work with the National Writing Project and pursing my master’s degree in education and literary studies at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee.

I am a strong believer in the constructivist theory of teaching, and my classroom represent student-centered practices that not only prepare students to succeed in IB English, but even more importantly to succeed in helping them to become active, educated voices in their communities. I find the IB program enticing—it constantly challenges both the students and teachers to evaluate ourselves as citizens and thinkers in a diverse society. I appreciate that IB is holistic in its approach to student learning and that it supports and encourages student-centered, constructivist learning/teaching theories. In IB Literature, students are encouraged to not only evaluate the content of a given work, but to pay particular attention to how the author has achieved his/her intended effect. IB Literature assessments evaluate not only the students’ ability to write about literature, but also their ability present orally on literature. I particularly appreciate the IB program because it challenges students and aids them in becoming individuals who are constantly questioning the world that surrounds them.

I look forward to working with your son/daughter throughout the school year. I can be contacted by email at magarcl@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or by voicemail at 414.267.0876.
